Do you still remember the typical American cars of the 90s, big, still floating on the road, some switched to front-wheel drive, others still retaining rear-wheel drive? The Buick Roadmaster was one of the cars that still kept the recipe with rear-wheel drive, and in the form of a station wagon it also had poses with the body covered with wooden panels, in the style of the 70s and 80s.
The car we're talking about today is a last-generation Roadmaster and an Estate Wagon, and it was recently sold at an auction in the US for $40,001. How can a 1992 Buick station wagon cost so much money? Well, there are a few reasons.
One would be that the car looks impeccably good, and the wood panels cleverly hide the odd proportion given by the very small rear door and the enormously long trunk. Even the rims and tires repeat the original styling, so this Buick looks like a collector's item preserved in original, near-new condition.
The interior looks just as original and authentic, with only a few creases on the driver's seat reminding that the car is actually 31 years old.
In the trunk, by the way, there is a third row of seats, a bench in fact, where the passengers sit facing the tailgate.
The car has a classic American audio system with impeccable sound and advanced tuning functions, as US manufacturers used to equip their cars back then.
This Buick has 108,000 miles on it, which would be about 174,000 km, but it's more valid mileage for the body, since the engine under the hood is different than the original one, and it brings the second reason why this The Buick cost that much.
There's a huge V8 from the LS3 family, 6.2 liters. The engine was installed in December 2021 and puts out 430 hp!
Power is sent to the rear wheels via a 4-speed automatic transmission and a limited-slip differential on the rear axle. So this apparently classic and floating station wagon can melt tires with effect, if it wants to!
And whoever paid $40,0001 for it certainly didn't buy it to walk around languidly. So, somewhere, this car will make a gorgeous V8 sound from time to time, leaving passers-by speechless!
