Toyota Corolla has always been a reliable model, and the first generations were also curious in driving sensations, having trear wheel drive. However, the engines on the Corolla were always reasonable, not very powerful, with 4 cylinders. A father and son in South Africa, however, decided to modify a 1984 Toyota Corolla in a very unexpected way.
First, they mounted the famous 1UZ-FE engine under the hood. It's about the 4.0-liter V8 engine, put on the Lexus LS400 once, for example, but also on some Toyota models. They did not simply put it up, however, but restored it step by step, assembling it with reinforced elements.
They modified the suspension, the brakes, and the exhaust system. And the latter has a turbine near the final mouth! Yes, the father and son chose not to put the turbine under the hood, near the manifold and intake, but moved it near the last exhaust segment. And the turbine thus takes the air from that area, then sends it through a pipe along the entire length of the car back under the hood, to the intake.
This whole solution would essentially increase turbolag, normally. But here the two say that the boost of the turbine is small, and the effect is not so felt. However, they claim that their car would have around 475 hp following the modifications made.
See below how this Toyota Corolla looks and sounds with a V8 engine and a turbine placed next to the exhaust pipe.
