Ruf is a manufacturer with proper documents and its own VIN code, but it is clear that all its cars are based on Porsche models and it has always been that way. However, the Ruf creations are so thoroughly modified, with so much added performance, that they have become cars today that are often more expensive than the original Porsches.
And there are hundreds of reasons for that. Today we are talking about the Ruf Turbo R, the car produced only in 1998, based on the Porsche 911 Turbo from the 993 generation. This car, 24 years ago, had an air-cooled, 6-cylinder boxer engine that produced 490 hp out of its 3.6 liters, thanks to the presence of two turbines. And in the 90s, there weren't many cars in the world that delivered 490 hp!
All the power is sent to all 4 wheels, through an all-wheel drive system and a manual gearbox. And in addition to the more powerful engine, the car also had a modified suspension, given a slightly spiced design. And, after all, this Ruf reached the first hundred in only 3.6 seconds 24 years ago, and the maximum speed reached 329 km/h!
How does such a classic gem feel to drive these days? Magnificent would be a rather modest qualifier. And the sound of the air-cooled engine must be heard at high volume. See it all in the video below.
