The Toyota Land Cruiser 80 is one of the most appreciated generations of the Japanese model, which has all generations respected, in fact. The Land Cruiser 80 embodied both the immense space and the excellent comfort on board, but also the extraordinary offroad capacities, co-opted with a durability over time that strengthened the model's reputation as indestructible. Well, the specimen we are talking about today certifies all these legendary qualities.
Launched in 1989, the Toyota Land Cruiser 80 had a more basic version with a more rudimentary interior, which was sold for more practical purposes, to all kinds of missions in difficult areas, military units or companies. Besides that, there was the VX civilian version, which was better equipped inside and more refined. And beyond all, only a few large and important countries also received the VX-R version, among them the USA, Japan and the countries of the Middle East. The specimen we are talking about today is one such VX-R, once sold in Qatar.
These versions also had a larger engine, 4.5 liters instead of 4.2 liters. It's a 6-cylinder in-line engine, naturally aspirated, with 4 valves per cylinder and multipoint injection. It produced 215 hp and was renowned for a rhythmic, vibration-free operation. Yes, we are talking about a gasoline engine, of course.
This car was prepared from the factory for long hikes, including through the heat of the Middle East, for that it also had a powerful air conditioning system, with separate controls in the front and back, in the passenger compartment.
More importantly, this Toyota has two gas tanks, totaling 150 liters. There are two dials on the dashboard, one for each tank, and the fuel source for the engine can be alternated from the desired tank. With this fuel, the car can travel up to 800 km on roads without intense demand, which would mean a consumption of less than 19 liters/100 km.
The Qatari owner of this car, manufactured in 1993, enjoyed it to the full, through the most varied adventures. So much so, that it accumulated almost 500 thousand km on board, or 476,000 km to be more exact. And despite this journey and the adventurous life this Toyota has had, it still looks new today. The car went through some deep washing procedures in Slovakia, where it was important, but nothing more, without any restoration or other more incisive work.
Basically, it's a Toyota Land Cruiser 80 that has been exploited quite intensively, but in a climate devoid of humidity. And because she was built to be indestructible and immortal, she looks as young today as it did nearly 30 years ago.
How much does it cost in Slovakia? Well, the sale is taking place in an online auction, and as of this writing there is still no bid on it. The seller hopes to get at least 20,000 euros for it, however.
