We are at a new crossroads in the evolution of electric mobility. It's the time when even the most ardent followers of big V8 engines, with fierce sounds, make the transition to the electric camp, and Dodge has just presented the prototype of the first such muscle car, which will not consume liters of gasoline, but kilowatts of electricity. It's called the Charger Daytona SRT and, surprisingly, it has exhaust pipes, but not to blow gas out there, but for the sound.
The new creation has a superb design, which preserves all the essence of the classic muscle car silhouette, with typical proportions and shapes that place less emphasis on aerodynamics and more on visual effect. It's clear from the first, it's a car created for the satisfaction of the soul and for the excitement of driving. And all this translates into an electric age.
The new electric muscle car is currently presented only as a prototype, but it is as clear as possible that it will reach production, but Dodge has promised that from 2024 it will no longer produce cars with gasoline engines. Therefore, most likely next year we will see this Charger Daytona SRT in its production version as well.
The electric model also introduces a new electric propulsion system, loosely called Banshee. Dodge doesn't announce exactly how many horsepower this system will have, but we do know that it will operate on modern 800V technology, and on this Charger Daytona SRT it will have a power described as dizzying and performing, worthy of the classic NASCAR car from the 1970s, with the same name, which could reach 320 km/h!
Could this be a hint that the new electric muscle car will have so much power that it will be able to reach such speeds? Expect values in excess of 1,000 hp, so that the new electric Dodge stands out, perhaps even against the likes of the Tesla Model S Plaid and Lucid Air Performance? It is as possible, or at least Dodge would certainly need such a highlight, to ensure its fame and sales!
And the announcement of a gearbox for this Dodge leads us to this possibility! Yes, unlike many other electric cars, which do not use gearboxes, but only the full range of speeds of electric motors, and only the Porsche Taycan has a two-speed gearbox, the new Dodge announces a gearbox with several gears and actuated changes electromechanical, which will give the classic sensation of acceleration in rounds, like an internal combustion engine! And this means that the model will have an engineering more prepared to reach very high speeds and to remain very dynamic even at those speeds!
And, finally, one of the most important ingredients in keeping the feeling of driving a muscle car is a unique system called Fratztonic. It's effectively a super-powerful audio system, encapsulated in an acoustic circuit and exhaust drums, just to create the sound that will define this model and pump it out through what appear to be exhaust pipes. The sound resembles a V8 echo, without the clunking component to it, and is claimed to be capable of reaching 126dB, which equates to the loudness of a V8-powered SRT Hellcat.
