We are in 2023, the year in which we can see for the first time a BMW M5 from the E39 generation, produced in 2003, so only 20 years ago, which was put on sale with an exorbitant price of 300 thousand dollars. Is this how much good condition M5 E39s have come to cost? Has this legendary model become so popular only 20 years after it was produced? Well, these questions have an affirmative answer, but the red car we are talking about today has another important distinguishing element, which gives it another reason for its price.
This example, painted in Imola red, has only 746 miles on its odometer, so the equivalent of 1,200 km! That's all this BMW M5 has collected in 20 years!
The car is now in the state of Ohio in the USA, but its entire history was found in the ownership of a single family in Puerto Rico, part of the island territory of the USA, therefore the car is also an American specification.
Under the hood, however, is the same famous 4.9-liter V8 engine, which produced 400 HP, being coupled to a 6-speed manual gearbox. The 4 exhaust pipes accentuate the natural sound of this engine.
The car is equipped with the equipment of those times, from a DVD player to a programmable button for opening the garage at home. It also had xenon headlights, Alcantara on the inside, and parking sensors, so it will mostly feel like a modern car, even if it is already a collector's car with legendary status.
For 20 years, the car was stored in the air-conditioned garage of the house in Puerto Rico, and this made it to this day in like new condition. The company in Ohio, which took it up for sale, gave it a general refresh, equipping it with new tires and giving it a technical maintenance session on the mechanical part, so that now this M5 would be ready to revs the engine again with all 400 HP trained at a gallop.
That, of course, if the future owner dares to put a large number of kilometers on it. Or, when such a special car has such a low number of kilometers traveled, it is a big dilemma if you decide to enjoy it to the full, having the satisfaction of a glorious classic car, in new condition, or think more rationally about it, as an investment, and you enjoy it very much, so that you can sell it even more expensive in a few years.
Tough decision when it comes to an M5 E39. After all, this car was synonymous with driving pleasure. And as if it were a shame, I don't know how to buy it, then arrive in 20 years and regret that you didn't drive it more, keeping it for the next buyer. But it all depends on your attitude towards such cars - save for the price increase or say that you don't care about the price anymore and sink into the driver's seat, gripping the steering wheel and swallowing miles of serpentines, knowing that you are probably one of the last people in the world who still get to drive a BMW M5 E39 that doesn't even have 1,000 miles on it!
And you pay for this feeling. A lot. Exorbitant. Just 300 thousand dollars, as I was saying. And something tells us that there will be at least one person in the world who will look at his bank account and say "let's do it!"
