The new generation Honda Civic Type-R has regained its record as the fastest FWD car on the Nurburgring, thus delighting its fans with the consistency of its engineering. This record has already become symbolic for any new generation Civic Type-R.
5 years ago, the previous generation Honda Civic Type-R set a similar record on the Nurburgring, recording a time of 7:43.8. Then, a year later, the record was broken by the Renault Megane RS Trophy-R, a car in a much more extreme version than the regular Megane RS, which reached 7 minutes 40.1 seconds. The new generation Honda Civic Type-R has now managed to achieve a time of 7:44.881 seconds. Well, doesn't that mean that it needed more time now? It does indeed!
But the explanation is in the 2019 revision of the circuit, or more precisely what is considered a full circuit tour. Now the length is no longer 20.6, but 20.8 km, respectively the new times are a little higher, but they are contrasted with a theoretical calculation that estimates the direct comparison with the previous times. Therefore, although it has a time of 1 second higher, the new generation Honda Civic Type-R has actually covered a distance of about 200 meters more, so it is faster both than the previous generation Civic Type-R, and than that Megane RS.
The new Civic Type-R has under the hood the same 2.0-liter turbo engine from the previous generation, but evolved with increased power to 329 HP, with a maximum torque of 420 Nm. Even more surprising is that the car, including the one that set the record, is equipped with a manual gearbox!
