It is said that if you turn your passion into work every day, then you will never work a day in your life, because you will be doing everything with such great satisfaction that it will seem like you are spending your time enjoying your hobby, not working. And sometimes, even if you get your university degree in a field, passion wins over reason and attracts you like a magnet to a completely different career path. This is also the case of Streten, the BMW enthusiast we are talking about today.
Streten became infected with the passion for cars and BMWs as a child and going to car shows with his father and sharing the same predilections together. He always liked the mechanical side of things.
Later he temporarily moved to California, where he bought a BMW E39, with a 530i engine. The car needed work, but Streten couldn't afford to pay the official services to do it. So he started working on the car himself.
Working on cars captivated him, and he started buying several neglected BMWs, in order to reanimate them and later sell them at a higher price. Later, he moved to Germany and the first car he bought was a BMW M5 E39. He bought it near the Nurburgring and drove it at night on the highways to Berlin. It was the moment that made him irreversibly fall in love with that model.
In 2019, he also decided to launch a YouTube channel, buying a BMW 7 Series to restore and film the process. That's how he started receiving more orders for restorations of classic BMWs, which he could also film. He left his basic job and turned his passion into a dream job.
Streten is not a professional mechanic, as I said with a degree in computer science, but he studies in depth every new model he works on and also uses the factory repair manuals. His YouTube channel is named after his car, M5, E39, Restorations, or M539 Restorations. It's a channel with new videos included periodically, in some articles, and recently the people from BMW Group Classics published a video with the history of this classic BMW enthusiast.
