This car seems to have appeared out of nowhere now, but in fact it knew glory at the time of its appearance in 1972. Then it was created by the British John Dodd, who put under the hood a 27.0 liter V12 engine from world. The Book of Records designated it in 1977 as the most powerful car in the world, powered by an internal combustion engine. The car magazines and shows of the time were fascinated by it and the "Beast", as it was nicknamed, appeared on many of the famous covers of the world. Now the history of this car has come to light again, because for the first time in the history of this car, it has been put up for sale.

The idea of creating such a car belongs to Paul Jameson, who started building something similar in 1966. At that time, Jameson chose a Meteor tank engine, also at 27 liters, and had started building a chassis. He went to John Dodd as a transmission specialist and asked him to create a box that could withstand the force of the engine. Dodd built one for him, and was so enthusiastic about the idea that he convinced Jameson to sell him the chassis and all the construction a few years later.
Dodd set about designing another body for it and was thinking of putting a Rolls-Royce grille on it. Meanwhile, the car caught fire while being transported from Sweden. Then it was decided to install another engine, and also to use the structure of a Rolls-Royce from 1972. The car thus received an airplane engine, called Merlin and built by Rolls-Royce. The engine developed nearly 1,500 hp in its form on the Spitfire, for example! On this car, the engine was adjusted to 750 HP, so that it could be as controllable as possible.
So, it's no wonder that this car won the title of the most powerful in the world back in 1977, when such powers on cars did not exist. The maximum speed, officially measured at the time, was over 321 km/h! The consumption of the car, however, is huge, over 140 liters/100 km, or 2 mpg!
Back then, being a Rolls-Royce as a base and having a Rolls-Royce aircraft engine, the car was registered as a Rolls-Royce and had a grille specific to the brand. But the British company sued Dodd, dissatisfied with how his grille was being used, and forced him to replace it, which is why the car now looks different on the front.
Surprisingly, the creator of this car, John Dodd, continued to keep it and take it out on public roads from time to time throughout his life. He paid huge fees to have a car with a 27.0 liter engine registered, and he also did technical services for it.
The creator and owner of this phenomenal car passed away in December 2022, however. And his son, David, the one who inherited the car, decided to sell it, therefore this explains the sale of the Beast for the first time in its history. And in the registration certificate of this car, the brand is also indicated as Rolls-Royce!
It is difficult to estimate how much such a unique car could sell in the world. The auction will be an online one and starts today, on March 9, and 20 collectors had already confirmed their interest in buying it before the start of the auction. And how many could appear during the auction, there is every chance that this car will sell for a high price, above the initial estimates. After all, it's an exotic car with an airplane engine, which was once the most powerful in the world!
See how this car's 27.0 liter engine starts and sounds below. The start is very complete and is made by the son of the one who built it.
