This is a historic moment for Lamborghini, for Italian cars and for the automotive world in general. Lamborghini, one of the reference brands in terms of supercars and perfect performance, has taken the big step to a new era of plug-in hybrid propulsion. The good news is that Lamborghini has kept a V12 engine in the equation, but also an exhilarating sound from the exhaust pipes. This is the new Lamborghini Revuelto, the Italian car that combines the thunder of the V12 engine with the lightning of electrification.
The new model is the serial embodiment of the car that Lamborghini was talking about three weeks ago, with the code name LB744. The italians were mentioning its engineering back the, and the most fascinating element is the V12 engine located longitudinally, in the mid-rear position, but turned 180 degrees compared to the previous models, so that engineers could place the gearbox on the rear axle.
Well, the reality looks even better than the sketches from back then. The aspirated V12 engine develops 825 hp at 9,250 rpm, and in addition to it there is an electric motor integrated in the gearbox and two other electric motors that propel the front wheels. The cumulative power of the entire system is 1,015 hp, and now we can also hear how this Lamborghini supercar from a new era sounds. In a word, let it be said the sound is magnificent, so much so that we have no regrets about stepping into a new era!
The new Lamborghini Revuelto has applied carbon fiber extensively to stay light, offsetting the weight added by the plug-in hybrid system's batteries. The battery is not too big, however, having only 3.8 kWh capacity, but measuring 1.55 meters / 61 inch in length, 30 cm / 12 inch in height and 24 cm / 9.5 inch in width. It is integrated in the central tunnel, so as not to cut from the space in the floor and not to impose a higher driving position. Lamborghini does not announce the weight of the battery, but it says that the ratio of the total weight of the car to the power is 1.75 kg/hp, which means that the 1,105 hp have to pull about 1,775 kg.
The battery can be charged at the domestic socket for half an hour, if you have a network of 7 kW or more. Or, if you let the car, it can use the kinetic energy and that of the V12 engine and charge the battery in just 6 minutes. Lamborghini also explains why it was necessary to mount the gearbox at the back, on the axle to leave room in the tunnel for the battery. The gearbox is an 8-speed one, with double clutch, and is positioned transversely, weighing only 193 kg including the electric motor in it.
The most important thing, however, is that Lamborghini promises a perfect driving experience, with absolute control, with perfect precision and with a sound that will make you jump as intensely as on the models so far. A new era where nothing was lost, in other words.
See in the video below, necessarily with sound, and how the new Lamborghini Revuelto advances and sounds.
