All Mercedes W124 versions have increased in price in recent years so much that, if you have a car in very good condition, it is more advantageous to keep it than to sell it. But today we are talking about one of the rarest versions of this generation, the one nicknamed Hammer in the US. It's a Mercedes E60 AMG, with a V8 engine under the hood enlarged to 6.0 liters, produced in 1987, when AMG was still an independent workshop, and the AMG emblem was not put on any car with a 4-cylinder engine.
Practically, at that time there was still no 500E model, created with the help of Porsche later. So AMG had based a 300E to create this car, and the engine came from an S-Class W126. It was the M117 engine, which normally stood at 560 SEL, the displacement of which was increased from 5.6 liters to 6.0 liters. After the works of AMG, the engine develops 385 hp and 566 Nm!
These cars were created at AMG's US branch at the time, located in Westmont, Illinois. And the remaining historical records say that only 13 such cars were produced, 5 of them being coupes and another 8 sedans. So, effectively, we are talking about one of the 8 cars, which belong to the original and authentic idea of "Hammer", because later the nickname was also applied in Europe to the 500E engines.
So it's clear why these Mercedes are among the most expensive W124 versions you can buy in the world. The appearance of such a car on the market is a rarity, because we are talking about a dozen people who still own them all over the world!
And by the way, there are other AMG-built cars outside the US with the same engine specifications, but their total number is estimated to be less than 30 anyway, including the 13 in the US.
The car we are talking about today has only 32,600 miles traveled in its entire history, so the equivalent of just over 50 thousand km!
In December 2022, it benefited from complete reanimation works, both technical and aesthetic, and those works, done at the RENNtech workshop, were valued at 79,000 dollars! Yes, only the works, not the car.
This AMG has a complete and clean documented history and will soon be listed in an online auction. Its estimated price, from which the real stakes will start, will be 600,000 dollars, but there are very high chances that the selling price will be over 800,000 dollars! Because it's a sedan and has all the mechanical work done professionally up to date, it's a copy that has already been targeted by a lot of collectors, so this Mercedes has every chance to set a record for the most expensive W124 ever sold!
