BMW 5 Series E34s have already come to cost a lot. And we're not necessarily referring to the M5s of this generation, which have long commanded huge prices, or the rare V8 versions. Already, versions like the 530i end up being put on sale at exorbitant prices. This BMW 5 Series E34 530i from Germany, for example, costs 42,770 euros and is the most expensive 530i E34 we have come across recently. How to explain such a high price, what does it offer so special?
Well, a large part of the price is due to the fact that such E34s are already more than 30 years old and are increasingly appreciated by collectors and increasingly sought after, especially the more powerful engines. This car was manufactured in 1989 and has a 3.0 liter inline 6 engine under the hood that produces 188 hp.
The second reason why this example costs so much is that the car has been painstakingly restored by the same owner who bought it and owned it from new until now. He says that the car had accumulated only 118,000 km in his ownership and, knowing all its history and loving the model, he decided to give it a complete restoration, down to the body structure.
So, while we rarely see cars this fresh go through such deep restorations, this BMW has been stripped down to the body and the body has been given the full body treatment as is done on classic collector cars.
This was followed by a repaint in the original shade of green, then a complete treatment of the lower part of the body with a protective layer.
The suspension was also completely restored, and new consumable parts were installed. All bushings and fasteners were re-ordered, brand new, and everything was reassembled like a new car.
A complete restoration of the 6-cylinder engine was also done, down to cleaning the cylinder block and cylinder head, cleaning and fitting new valves and, of course, installing new gaskets.
The interior looks just as fresh, with only small creases on the leather upholstery reminding that the car is not exactly one that has just been taken out of the showroom, but is still 34 years old since it was manufactured.
Since going through the full restoration, this BMW has only covered 1,250 km, so it is still freshly restored and has all the maintenance freshly done, along with its assembly. And it also has classic car status, with an H plate, approved in Germany.
And after all this history, the car was put up for sale for 42,770 euros, as I said. Of course, it's more than 530i E34s were sold a few years ago, but that's exactly what makes this example so curious, that it clearly signals that these models have already become appreciated and expensive, and that there are already enthusiasts who restore them with the thoroughness that beneficiary valuable collection models.
