In 2015, Land Rover had announced that it was permanently discontinuing the classic Land Rover Defender model, after many decades in which it produced it in a continuous evolution, but with unchanged essence. At the end of production, V8 versions and more generous equipment were announced, and after that it was known that there would be a break of several years, after which a new Defender would follow, totally different from the classic one. Sensing that the classic model will remain more loved by enthusiasts, the British Charles Fawcett then bought 200 brand new copies of the Defender, which he put in storage, and now he started selling them at exorbitant prices.
The man specifically went to the factory in 2015, and ordered both diesel and petrol engines, ensuring that all 8 colors that were available for the Defender would be present in his collection. All 200 cars are equipped as XS, the most generous level then possible for the Defender. The cars produced for him are among the last produced by Land Rover, a fact confirmed by the VIN codes of the bodywork.
Once his cars were produced and delivered, the British stored them in hangars, dry and ventilated, treated with protective solution and covered with protective cloth. Each of the 200 cars was covered and preserved in this way. Then, in 2015, the official price of such a super equipped Land Rover Defender started at around 35,000 pounds. And, we can intuit that, at 200 cars ordered, the factory also made a significant discount.
By the way, the British also owns a workshop for modifying and customizing classic Defenders, called Twisted, which modifies the cars of passionate owners, customizing them, making them more comfortable or more capable offroad. The company is located next to the place where he keeps his 200 Defenders.
Now, after 7-8 years of keeping 200 Defenders, Charles Fawcett has started selling his cars. The Briton has now removed 16 cars from the 200 and is selling them only if you accept a bit of ennobling treatment from his company, which gives the car additional sound insulation, new springs on the suspension, to make it more maneuverable, and a multimedia system modern, with Apple CarPlay. Thus, customers receive a new classic Defender, professionally preserved for them, with less than 50 km on board, which is also a little ennobled, but without spoiling its legendary allure.
Each of the 16 cars costs 135,000 pounds plus VAT if it is in the 2.2-liter, 174 HP diesel version, or 184,500 pounds + VAT if it is in the 2.3-liter turbo, 308 HP gasoline version. That means 154 thousand euros plus VAT for diesel, or 185,000 euros. For such a gasoline Land Rover Defender, the price is 210,725 euros + VAT, which means 252,870 euros including taxes! And if you want more customizations, you can pay extra. With the 200 cars he has, the British will make a nice profit from the whole business. And, by the way, he still doesn't sell all of them, he keeps them for the next years, may they increase in price!
