In any business plan of a modern car company, this car would not sound like a profitable idea. In no board meeting would this car get approval for the money spent on its creation. In no accounting in the world, the figures of this car would not even come out to zero. And in no marketing department of any car company in the world, no one could but guess whether it will be that successful in sales or not. And that's exactly why this Porsche 911 Dakar is so brilliant!
It's a model that has just been launched in Los Angeles, in the USA, and which comes to evoke Porsche's first victory in the Dakar Rally in 1984, but we all know that Porsche is flirting with the idea of returning a 911 to the Dakar nowadays. And this car of today comes to embody the remark that Ferry Porsche once proudly said: "The Porsche 911 is the only car that can take you from a Safari in Africa to Le Mans, then to the theater, and then on the streets of New York". Now, the lucky ones who will be able to catch such a Porsche 911 Dakar will be able to taste this prophetic universality, spiced with performance.
However, only 2,500 cars will be produced and we venture to intuit that they will be sold out within the first 24 hours from the start of global orders.
The car itself has pneumatic suspension, which can adjust its ground clearance. The normal position is 50 mm higher than that of a normal 911, and when set to offroad position, it can go up another 30 mm. And then, the Porsche 911 Dakar can conquer offroad challenges in full. And it can do it at a speed of up to 170 km/h. The car can go even faster, of course, but then the suspension will return to normal height.
The new 911 Dakar will come factory equipped with off-road tyres, with reinforced sidewalls and resistant to sharp stones. Because of these tires, however, top speed was limited to 240 km/h.
The engine is a 3.0 liter biturbo boxer, which delivers 480 HP and 570 Nm. The extravagant car remains a Porsche 911 even in acceleration, managing to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in only 3.4 seconds. The engine is connected to a PDK box, and the car also has all-wheel drive, of course. The engine was bolted to the mounting elements on the 911 GT3, to cope with the jumps and gravitational forces of high-speed offroad escapades.
The car with a superb combination of colors and inscriptions on the body, which brings it as close as possible to the historical legend, and in addition, it can also have an additional system for fixing luggage on the roof, which also comes with additional offroad lights.
And because it's essentially a Porsche 911, this car has remained relatively light even with all its transformations. It weighs 1,605 kg, only 10 kg more than a Porsche 911 Carrera GTS with PDK gearbox, for example!
This car is a collector's car before the sale of the first copy! Because it does not fit into any logic of its time. Because it is produced only due to the fact that there are still brave engineers and designers. We don't know how much one will cost now, but in just about 10 years the prices will be in the millions. And whoever gets to enjoy one like this while driving, will immediately understand why, whether he will do it now or in 10 or 20 years.
