The Italians from Maserati launched today the new generation GranTurismo, a model that you will hardly notice from the outside that it is new, but which comes with new engineering, which also allowed the appearance of a 100% electric version, with batteries and with a fulminant acceleration, from the area of Tesla's performance models.
Therefore, in terms of design, the silhouette of the car and even the essential design elements have remained practically unchanged, much like what happens with the Porsche 911. The new model claims to continue an idea started 75 years ago, with the Maserati A6 1500, model, the image of which we include below.
Well, the most curious fact about the new GranTurismo generation is that it debuts both with classic engines, V6, on gasoline, and in a purely electric mode. Both cars use the same platform, so we could expect some inefficiency in the positioning of the batteries on the electric car. But Maserati claims that they somehow managed to integrate most of the electric batteries in the central tunnel, and the total battery is as large as possible, reaching 92.5 kWh capacity. And with such a large capacity, the electric version of Maserati GranTurismo, which will be called Folgore, will have a height of only 1,353 millimeters, so it will remain a supercar in silhouette. Unfortunately, we still don't know how much the GrandTurismo Folgore will weigh.

We also know that it will be powered by 3 electric motors, each capable of 300 kW, i.e. 402 hp per motor. That would mean a potential of more than 1,200 hp for all of them together, but with current electric cars, the problem is not the more powerful electric motors, but the batteries to ensure such a strong energy flow. Maserati's batteries can provide energy for 760 hp, and the electric motors will make alternate use of this energy, depending on speed and demands. By the way, the electric model of the Italians promises a maximum speed of over 200 miles per hour, i.e. over 320 km/h, but the exact figure is not announced. But, when the data will be approved, this Maserati has every chance to be the electric model that can reach the highest speed in the world or at least be close to Rimac Nevera.
And the acceleration is perfect, the time from 0 to 100 km/h being only 2.7 seconds! So, we are talking about an acceleration in the area of Performance models or even Plaid from Tesla. And it's nice that Maserati wants to make its launch in the electric realm with such a brave model, not just an electric car to check that it exists.
In terms of gasoline engines, there will be two versions — Modena and Trofeo — both with the same V6 twin turbo engine from the Nettuno family. It is a 3.0-liter engine in both cases, on the Modena it delivers 490 hp, and on the Trofeo — 550 hp. The exact performance here is not announced, but judging by the horsepower figures, they will be worthy of the passion with which a Maserati must be driven.
And, finally, the new generation also comes with a new multimedia system inside, which will transpose the Italian model into a new, much more digitized era.
So, Maserati took a brave step today, keeping the traditional poses with the V6 twin turbo on the new GranTurismo, but also launching an electric model that is very progressive in the performances it announces. Sounds like an exceptionally exciting launch for what we can expect from Maserati these days!
