The famous Queen frontman, Freddie Mercury, remained in the memory of many car enthusiasts as a car lover, but this image was created for him mainly by the release of the song "In Love With My Car" in 1975. Later, Freddie was seen as an owner of a Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow, produced in 1974 and many assumed that Freddie was so delighted with this Rolls-Royce that he dedicated a piece to it. It's the very car we're talking about today.
In fact, the song was composed by the band's drummer, Roger Taylor, and was not necessarily dedicated to this car, of course. Moreover, Freddie bought the car second-hand, in 1979, through his music production company. More than that, Freddie Mercury never had a driver's license and maybe that's why he chose a Rolls-Royce, to be transported in the back seat. But, Freddie was seen traveling in this car until 1991, until the dusk of his life. So this copy is one with a special historical value.
The car has the famous 6.75-liter V8 engine under the hood, which produced only 200 hp (203 PS), however. The engine was mated to a 3-speed automatic transmission.
In the file folder of this car there are invoices issued in the name of Freddie Mercury, and there is also a certificate of authenticity, signed by the producer of the band. After Freddie's death, the car continued to be driven by his sister until 2013, when it was sold.
Since then and until now, the car has been mostly still, therefore it would need a complete overhaul and revitalization works.
The car will be auctioned in the UK on November 5. It is estimated that the selling price will be between 20 and 30 thousand pounds, if it doesn't jump to unexpected values.
And there is a reason for unexpected values — all money collected from the sale of this Rolls-Royce will go to the charity organization Superhumans Center, which assists Ukraine in these times of war with humanitarian aid. Accordingly, Ukraine will benefit from this money, in the form of humanitarian aid for its population in need during this period.
