The new Nissan 400 Z Performance has already arrived in North America and is in full swing to conquer Japanese car fans with a classic recipe of Japanese sportiness. It uses a turbocharged engine of optimal displacement, focusing on lower weight and more compact dimensions. And its new engine, twin turbo V6 of 3.0 liters, produces 400 hp, compared to a weight of only 1,581 kg. So does it stand a chance against American muscle cars with big V8 engines?
To find out, the authors of a Canadian YouTube channel lined up a Ford Mustang GT at the start, with a 5.0-liter V8 engine and 450 hp at active power, as well as a Dodge Challenger Scatpack, with a 6.4 V8 engine, offering 485 hp. Both V8s are naturally aspirated, and all 3 cars have manual gearboxes and rear-wheel drive. There is also a weight difference, of course, the Mustang being about 100 kg heavier than the Nissan, and the Dodge over 300 kg heavier than the Japanese model. Therefore, the plot is as intriguing as it can be.
And the results of the race showed that American models came out victorious, both in the race with a standing start and in the one with a rolling start. But Nissan is not dramatically far from them, and in the rollng race it even managed to finish second. What the Canadians criticize the Japanese model for are the weak brakes, which feel this way especially at high speeds.
